Print Media Campaigns

The best place to start is with a balanced evaluation of the market.

You would begin by making a list of all the publications, including newspapers that come to mind. You can weed the list out later. The important thing is to begin the brain storming process.

The next step is the Internet

Google your book's area of interest. Then, further refine your search by seeking out magazines and blogs and websites that are complementary to your subject matter.

Your purpose here is to create a list to which you will phone, mail and email a query. This letter or conversation should be brief.

With magazines, the names and addresses with phone numbers and emails should be on the masthead page. There should be a column running the length of the page with all the appropriate info.

Introduce yourself as an author with a new book. Mention the book title and subject matter You are trying to ascertain if they would be interested in receiving a copy of your book to review.

You would like to send them a copy for their review. Only on the condition that they will actually look at it! You will not be able to guarantee that they will review it. But you can make sure that at least they say they will take a look at it. Some may say that they cannot be for sure that they will even open the envelope. Then the decision is up to you!

Do not send the book blind. That is, do not address your correspondence to DEAR BOOK REVIEW EDITOR. Do your homework and find out the name of the editor and contact them personally This goes a long way to building relationship. Relationships sell books. Do the same for each magazine, blog and website.

Here's the golden question to ask each and every time!

Regardless of whether they can help you or not always ask, “Do you know of anyone else who might be able to help me?
