This is a great book. Very informative for using basic herbs in a variety of helpful ways. I've gifted this a few times. It is one that everyone should have in their natural health library."philly girlly"
This is, by far, my favorite herb book EVER!!! It makes everything simple because she chooses the very most effective herbs, so you don't have to buy a ton and spend a lot of money. It is a very thorough explanation of each of the herbs. I recently had a very sharp scissor fall into my hand (it fell off of my lap and I tried to catch it before it hit the floor), and it was bleeding profusely. I cleaned the wound and put the people paste, explained in the book, mixed with honey on it and covered it with a bandaid. The next morning when I went to change the bandaid, I was AMAZED because it was almost completely healed! I just had two small cuts equivalent to about two small paper cuts where the wound was. I really like the layout of the book. I also love the personal stories she gives about the herbs, because it gives you a better understanding about how they work and how effective they really are. They also help you remember the information better. Get this book! You will not be sorry!! "Natural Remedy Lover"
I love this book!!! The book is written in plain English, reviews and recommends herbs that are easily grown and/or has ones that are readily ordered from a trusted herb company. Some of the most important features of this book are: detailed directions on how to prepare the herbs in a variety of ways for a variety of uses, dosages for babies through adult aged people, how to use the preparations for specific medical problems, and a detailed index at the back of the book by specific medical problem and which preparations to use or turn to within the book. A very simple, easy to understand book. Excellent for beginners or the more advanced. We have had this book for well over 15 years, and have referenced it time and time again. This is by far our most used, go-to resource for herbal remedies. Highly recommended.
EDIT to add background: I wanted to add that I am not a 'beginner herbalist' but more like an 'intermediate herbalist' [somewhere between beginner and advanced, with no desire to be advanced]. I have SEVERAL herbal remedy books, and even an entire [expensive] herbal remedy course. That is what I mean when I say, "This is by far our most used, go-to resource ..." it is SO EASY to understand, SO EASY to reference when you need info FAST. There's a wonderful chart towards the back ["General Use Chart" - see photo] that is great for a quick reference when you are in a hurry. Also, with every herb listed, each ailment is in alphabetical order ... SO HANDY! Very user-friendly format. "J S"
I bought this book years ago on the advice of a friend after she used the "PEOPLE PASTE" on my husband's thumb that had been flattened and split open when it had been trapped by a falling log. It was a mess but healed with no scar very quickly. You would not know he had ever hurt it. I have since used it to treat my family and myself for a wide variety of ailments with great success. I have bought it as gifts for many of the people I care about because it is so useful. It simplifies herbalism down to ten of the most effective and readily available herbs, many of which you probably already have on hand. It is written in an easy to read format with stories from her experience and those of her students to illustrate how effective these simple preparations can be. If you are looking for one book on herbs to help you take care of yourself and your loved ones this would be it."E. Axe"
I heard a lot about this book. I borrowed one from someone else and flipped through it and read some interesting things about certain types of herbs. I decided to start drinking tea (the ones mentioned in the book). I started feeling better--i.e. more energetic, sleeping like a log and didn't get sick this flu season (whereas a lot of others around me did). I attribute this to all the teas I was drinking (supposedly strengthens the immune system). It did something! I'm still reading the book and
finding out all sorts of tips to help guide my body to a healthier lifestyle. Fortunately tea is VERY cheap and easy to make and there are tons of different flavors and you can have it just about any time during the day--so it is working out to be a very effective low-cost investment! Highly recommended for those fed up with pharma drugs and high medical costs! "Patrick Lawrence"
I refer to this book FIRST when I or any friend have a minor health issue. Lalitha’s style is inimitable — humorous and Personal, extremely memorable. With just 10 fairly common herbs, it seems that 90% of our ailments can be treated effectively. I have used onion for bad bruising AND for bad bee stings. Comfrey to grow bone with hip replacements. Ginger for digestion. Etc. "Student of world spirituality"
I am studying herbs and this book goes deeply into each herb and its uses. To top it all, these are herbs that can be easily grown in our garden. And most of them already were my top ten before the book. Now even more so. 5 stars, because I can't give more. "Abilka6"
I purchase this to replace an earlier copy that I had from many years ago when it first came out. So happy to see that there was an update as well with new information. This is Herbalist is the real deal. "NINA"
Very handy reference book, and what I like best is that it tells how and when to use them and make the tinctures and salves etc. One of the best books on this subject I've found. "Kindle Customer"
simple, concise, and practical...I appreicate how Lalitha Thomas takes a complex art like herbology and makes it understandable...I will get more to share with others...Thanks Lalitha Thomas, for your contribution to our understanding of herbs. "mike v."
